A robbery took place at the house of Shyam Basnet at Gathaghar in Bhaktapur on August 25 around 3 am. When the two youths showed pistols and started robbing, the owner of the house started yelling. And the accused absconded. Police have arrested 41-year-old Amber Bahadur Magar of Udaipurgadhi Rural Municipality-7 of Udaipur and 32-year-old Ravin Kishore Rai alias Subas of Panchpakhan Municipality-8 of Sankhuwa Sabha, who were involved in the robbery.
An officer of the Valley Crime Investigation Office told Ratopati that Amber, who was involved in the robbery, also had a criminal past. Amber was released from prison after serving 4 years in the robbery case. Amber, who was in jail from 2072 to 2076, spent some time in the Central Jail in Sundhara. While in the Central Jail in 2075, he became acquainted with Suter, who was involved in the murder of Sharad Kumar Gauchan, the then president of the Federation of Construction Professionals.
He had asked Gauchan’s killer, “Where can you find a pistol?” In his statement with the police, Amber said – ‘The same shooter said that he could buy it in Raxaul.’ Gauchan’s killer also gave Amber the address of a place where he could buy a pistol in Raxaul. In June 2079, Amber went to Raxaul and brought a pistol. The police officer involved in the investigation says – ‘It seems that he planned to rob the valley and brought the pistachios.’
The Crime Investigation Office has recovered a pistol marked ‘Made in Italy’ and two rounds of bullets used by them when they went to rob Bhaktapur. Amber told the police that he bought the pistol for Rs 65,000 in the Indian market, Raxaul. On October 23, 2074, Gauchan was shot dead in Shantinagar. 11 accused involved in his murder are in jail.
It has been learned from police investigation that they looted 60,000 from the house of Shyam Basnet, who is also Bhaktapur district president of CPN (Unified Socialist). At 3 o’clock in the morning, they went to rob with pistols. According to the Valley Crime Investigation Office, there were 4 persons including them who went to rob the warehouse in Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-3. Amber planned the robbery. After being arrested, his plan to make a ‘robbery’ by showing a pistol has come to a halt.
